The Ranakpur Jain Temple in Pali district, Rajasthan, is one of the most celebrated Jain temples in India. Dedicated to Lord Adinath, also called Rishabhanatha, the first Tirthankara, it is a masterpiece of white marble carving set in the Aravalli hills.
The temple is famous for its more than 1,400 intricately carved pillars, no two of which are alike in design.
Story of Ranakpur Jain Temple
The temple was built in the fifteenth century with the support of Dharna Shah, a Jain merchant, and Rana Kumbha of Mewar, from whom the town takes its name. It is known as the Chaturmukha Dharana Vihara because the main sanctum has four faces of Adinath.
The temple has twenty-nine halls and eighty domes, supported by pillars carved with scenes and patterns.
