The Raghunath Temple in Jammu is a large temple complex dedicated to Lord Rama and is one of the best-known landmarks of the city. It was built in the nineteenth century by the rulers of the Dogra dynasty and consists of several shrines.
The temple stands in the old part of Jammu, in the Raghunath Bazaar area, and is visited by pilgrims travelling to Vaishno Devi.
Story of Raghunath Temple
The construction was begun by Maharaja Gulab Singh in the 1830s and completed by his son Maharaja Ranbir Singh in the 1860s. The complex has seven shrines with images of deities and episodes from Hindu epics.
The temple is known for its collection of Sanskrit manuscripts and for its carved walls and domes.
