History & Significance

Lord Venkateswara made Tirumala his abode 5,000 years ago. The temple is a masterpiece of Dravidian Architecture. The main sanctum, ‘Ananda Nilayam’, has a glittering gold-plated dome. It is believed that Lord Vishnu resides here in the idol form (Archa Avatar).

Strictly Traditional. Men: Dhoti/Pyjama with Upper Cloth. Women: Saree/Chudidar with Dupatta. Jeans/Shorts not allowed.

2. How to book Special Darshan?

Tickets for ₹300 Special Entry Darshan can be booked online via TTD website or our assistance service in advance.

3. Is accommodation available?

Yes, TTD provides cottages and guest houses. Advance booking is recommended due to high rush.

4. Why do people tonsure their head?

Offering hair (Mokku) is a symbol of sacrificing one’s ego and vanity at the feet of the Lord. It is a very common practice here.

5. What about Senior Citizens?

There is a separate queue for Senior Citizens and Physically Challenged devotees, usually allowing darshan at 10 AM and 3 PM.
